Things To Do

Old Town Scottsdale

This historic district features an old-town Southwestern vibe with adobe-style buildings. Walk through the pedestrian-friendly streets past quirky shops, upscale and Western-themed boutiques, galleries and restaurants. Don’t miss the Arizona Canal Trail, which runs through Old Town and offers walking and biking paths along the water. For an alternative shopping experience, head to Scottsdale Fashion Square, one of the largest malls in the Southwest where you'll find a variety of luxury retailers and high-end brands.



Camelback Mountain


This is one of the most recognizable mountains outside Scottsdale. Named for its distinctive shape that resembles a kneeling camel, it has one of the best views of the city and the surrounding desert. Both are subject to extreme heat, so take caution when trying to hike outside of October-May and brings lots of water. Dogs are not allowed on either trail.


Echo Canyon Trail: 2.6 miles, 1552' elevation gain. This trail is known for its steep, challenging ascent that involves scrambling over rocks.


Cholla Trail: At 3 miles, this option a slightly longer, but less technically difficult route compared to Echo Canyon.



Desert Botanical Garden


This 140-acre living museum features garden trails and walking paths that take you through various desert habitats from cacti to wildflowers, along with themed exhibits. They offer illuminated displays during the holidays and family-friendly events throughout the week.



Golf

Scottsdale is a golfer’s paradise, with over 200 courses in and around the city. A major draw is TPC Scottsdale, host of the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Courses like We-Ko-Pa are ideal for experienced golfers, while Papago suits beginners.



ATV Tour

For an adrenaline rush through the Arizona desert, explore rugged terrain via rocky trails, sand dunes, and desert washes on a guided ride. Tours can range from short rides to more extensive, half-day or full-day adventures. Desert Wolf Tours is a recommended option, with tours lating between 2-3 hours.



Grand Canyon


Located a 4 hours north of Scottsdale, the Grand Canyon is a must-visit destination. Carved over millions of years by the Colorado River, the canyon is filled with cliffs and rock formations that stretch for miles.



Horseback Riding

Enjoy the beauty of the desert on horseback with a Western-style riding experience. MacDonald's Ranch is family-friendly and perfect for those wanting to explore the desert in an authentic cowboy style. They offer both group and private tours, along with options for sunset rides.



Hot Air Balloon

Experience a smooth sunrise ride over the desert landscape, ending with a celebratory champagne toast. Hot Air Expeditions offers both morning and afternoon rides, depending on the time of year.



Salt River Tubing

The Salt River is a waterway that winds its way through Tonto National Forest. From May-September you can rent a tube to float down the river for 1-3 hours, spotting cacti and wild horses along the banks. Be very cautious of the current at various points, specifically close to the end as it does get very strong. Many people have lost valuables in the water, so it’s important to take care and keep your belongings secure.



Talking Stick

Play at the casino, dine at Orange Sky restaurant with 360-degree views, or enjoy a round of golf at Talking Stick Golf Club. Beyond the casino and golf, there's also family-friendly activities such as the OdySea Aquarium and Mavrix, where you can enjoy bowling, arcade games, and more.
