Costa Rica, a beloved destination in Central America, offers a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation from its lush rainforests to pristine beaches. Zip through Latin America's longest courses in Monteverde, indulge in world-class sport fishing in Los Sueños, or catch the surf vibes in Tamarindo. Immerse yourself in the vibrant biodiversity of Manuel Antonio National Park to the soothing hot springs surrounding the Arenal Volcano. Let friendly locals guide you through the "Pura Vida" attitude – a laid-back and positive approach to life.
Day 1: Arrival in San Jose and Transfer to La Fortuna
Arrive in San Jose, Costa Rica's capital, and pick up a rental car before making the ~3 hour scenic drive to La Fortuna.
In Costa Rica, it is mandatory to get car insurance, whether or not your credit card company covers it. What looks like a $10 rental car online for a few days might be $350 total in person.
Spend the evening relaxing in the natural hot springs with views of the Arenal Volcano. Tabacon Thermal Springs Resort offers an incredible tropical atmosphere surrounded by jungle and bamboo with the sounds of the hot springs in the background. Although it's on the pricier end, hotel guests have access to the springs two hours earlier than the public and day passes (~$90) are included in the reservation.

Arenal Volcano National Park
Take a morning hike in Arenal Volcano National Park with well-maintained hiking trails at different levels of difficulty. The1968 Trail, although relatively short, it provides an informative and scenic experience with the opportunity to witness the remnants of the 1968 eruption, the last significant eruption of the Arenal Volcano.
Lunch at a Local Spot
Explore La Fortuna town and have lunch at a classic "soda," - a family-run, small, casual eatery serving affordable and authentic Costa Rican cuisine. Consider Soda La Hormiga or Soda Vasquez. For a healthier option, Organico Fortuna serves bowls and smoothies with vegan and vegetarian options.

Playa Grande is the ultimate surf destination due to the consistency and the size of the waves, which double Tamarindo's. Between October – March, you can also spot turtles make their way to the ocean during their nesting season.
